How Much Does Kei Truck Shipping Cost?

What actually goes into the landed cost of a kei truck shipped from Japan, and why a single headline number is usually misleading.

There is no single shipping price

Ocean freight is quoted per shipment, per route and per vessel booking. It moves with fuel costs, vessel availability and season. Anyone quoting one fixed worldwide number is quoting an average, not your price.

Roll-on/roll-off versus container

With roll-on/roll-off the truck is driven onto the vessel and parked. It is normally the cheaper option for one running vehicle. In a container the truck is sealed inside, which costs more but protects it from weather and handling and lets you ship spare parts alongside it. Sharing a container with another buyer reduces the per-vehicle cost.

Costs that are not freight

Buyers often compare freight quotes and forget the rest: Japanese auction and handling fees, export documentation, destination port charges, customs entry, duty, and inland delivery from the port to your address. The freight line is rarely the largest number on the final invoice.

How to compare quotes properly

Ask every supplier for the same thing: the price of the vehicle, the total of all Japan-side costs, the freight cost to your named port, and a written note of what is excluded. Quotes that do not separate these are difficult to compare honestly.

What we will and will not tell you

We will give you an itemised estimate for a specific truck to a specific port, and say plainly which lines are fixed and which are estimates. We do not publish guaranteed shipping rates, because we would have to invent them.

Important

This is general information, not legal or customs advice. Import eligibility and road registration are decided by the authorities in your country, state or province, and rules change. Confirm your own position with your customs broker and vehicle registry before committing to a purchase.
